Zia transforms spaces and places, believing that a simple gesture can provoke subtle shifts in awareness, rippling out through people, community and place. She applies this view in her large, temporary installations which invite audience participation, as well as in the expression of her minimal sculptural and functional work, provoking thoughtful contemplation and inviting interaction. With a background in Ceramic Arts, Zia alternates between periods of quiet, introspective studio expression and time spent developing and implementing large, public art projects. Always interested in unseen connections, she creates situations which explore interconnectedness resulting from common gestures linking people together.
